Change windows vista to xp but pc wont let me because vista is a newer version of windows?

i want to remove vista and reinstall xp from recovery disc but it wont let me because vista is a newer version will i need to format hard drive and if so how cant find a format option after pressing f1,f2,f8 or f10 i need to remove vista to have a chance to get xp back on but cant see how

Download all of your personal files to a cd then set your BIOS to boot from the disk drive first.

Put the disk in and reboot, Install a fresh copy, taking care to delete and reformat your O.S. partition.

Once you have the new copy installed, put your files back in off of the disks you saved them on.

make sure you set the comp to read from dvd insted of disc then insert the reformat discand restart
