How do I change Windows XP to my name as owner/user?

My brother gave me his old computer with Windows XP installed. He also gave me the OEM software on CD%26#039;s. I would like to remove him as owner/operator (?) and replace it with my name. Is this possible, and, if so, what is the best way to do it?|||go to control panel

How to change windows vista to windows xp?

I bought a new computer and it came with windows vista which really sucks and I wanted to know if there is anyway I could change it to windows xp.I perfer windows xp so much more.Anyone? Please help. Thanks!|||First, there is nothing wrong with Vista. I am running it and have been running it for about 7 months with out any problems. You should really learn to use it because it is the operating system of the future. It won%26#039;t be all that long before Microsoft no longer supports XP.

But if you must go backwards remember that you will need all of the drivers ans software that came with your new machine so that it will run properly after you install XP. If this info in on a partition on your hard drive, then you will need to back it up and hope that there is a section that you can use to reinstall the drivers. You will need drivers for the sound, the PCI buss bridge, the video, and any other hardware that came with your machine.

Before you can install XP you will need to remove all evidence of Vista. The best way to to this is to use the %26quot;fdisk%26quot; feature that is contained on a old Win98 boot disk. After you have removed the Vista partition, you will be able to create a partition and format it to NTFS buy using your XP installation CD.

One more note on Vista. In the 7 months that I have used it I have had %26quot;NO%26quot; freeze up, blue screens, or any other problems. It is fast, secure , and very stable. I really do suggest that you learn to use it.|||This becomes a little difficult because if your new machine is like the one my wife has it has a partition for software. If you have these on CD then great. All you have to do is just FDISK the HD. Be careful because this will delete all data. Then with your XP CD reload the OS back onto the machine. Hopefully your CD%26#039;s will re-load the software back on. Just be sure though or go through the manufacturer and see if they have anything as well.|||If you have the Windows XP disc, hopefully the full version, put it in the cdrom and have it boot up from the cdrom and Windows XP boot screen should load, have it format the partion Vista is on and install from there.

My windows XP refresh rate is set high and the new monitor I plugged in doesn%26#039;t support it, so I can%26#039;t get into winXP and change it to something lower. This seems ridiculous to me...|||This has happend to me tons of time, what I do is to memorize keybord keys in order to lower resolution because is easier than changing screen refresh rate.

What I usually do is:

1. Restart in safe mode

2. Write down the keyboard keys to lower resolution once there. ie.

a) Win + D %26lt;- To clean anything on the screen which could steal my right click

b) Right click on desktop %26lt;- A menu appears

c) Up arrow key pressed then enter %26lt;- As the fist item is selected up key will lead you to the last one, the properties option

d) Shitf + TAB %26lt;- It%26#039;ll select the first tab

e) Right arrow click 4 times %26lt;- Will select Settings

f) TAB pressed 3 times %26lt;- Resolution scroll will be selected

g) Left arrow pressed down till you get tired.

The last step will lower your screen resolution, then just press enter and done.

Very dissapointing but works. Keyboard doesn%26#039;t need an exact clicking point.

Or, if u only want Vista, just go buy it and install it over XP (format the drive)

OR, if u want XP to look and feel like Vista, you can get WindowBlinds 6, or Vista Transformation Pack.|||i think u have to buy a computer that already has vista|||The easiest way is to wait until you need to replace your computer, and buy one with vista on it. It%26#039;s cheaper that way and someone else will have made sure everything works with vista.

Failing that, when you put a vista disk in the drive it will tell you what to do. You have a choice of installing vista over xp - so you don%26#039;t lose any files or settings - or installing vista from scratch, which means backing up your files and putting them back afterwards. It takes a few hours but you don%26#039;t have to watch it.

I didn%26#039;t use any transformation packs, but I spent my time finding effects, ect. . I ended up with good results, but if you don%26#039;t want to waste time looking for that, there are plenty of transformation packs on google, but be careful! You could fry your computer trying to turn it to vista when it can%26#039;t handle system specs. That%26#039;s why I chose separate downloads to keep my PC running smooth|||Buy the upgrade version for XP users, assuming you already have a valid license for XP. First follow the top link below to see if your computer will properly run Vista.

Then visit pricewatch to see who has the best deal.

I personally wouldn%26#039;t change to Vista unless your job requires it. Vista will run slower than XP on the same hardware.|||buy new computer,,,or buy vista software if your computer support,,like RAM, Memory n speed..|||First make sure that you meet the hardware qualifications (link below)

From there, you can buy an upgrade version for under $100 on Amazon.com.

My advice, however -- and I speak as a Windows Vista user -- is to NOT do this. Unless you know for a fact that all of your sofware is compatable with Vista, you%26#039;ll find yourself frustrated when many of your programs don%26#039;t work on the new platform. Unless you%26#039;re ready to invest in upgrades on all of your titles, I would hold off.

Vista itself is extremely buggy (the search function, for instance, is far inferior to windows XP. You can find files with XP in five seconds. The same file can%26#039;t be found at ALL with Vista)...

Windows Vista is quite possibly the worst version that Microsoft has ever put out -- even surpassing Windows ME as the biggest piece of junk that ever came down the pike.

If I didn%26#039;t know any better, I would swear it was put together by Apple in a ploy to get people to buy Macs instead -- and trust me, it%26#039;s done just that to a lot of people.......

And of course you can always manage your appearance, like font size, window colors, and stuff like that from the Appearance tab.

How do I change windows XP registered user and organisation?

I just bought a new PC without an operating system, I also bought a legitimate OEM copy of windows XP to install on it. Now if I check system properties in My Computer the %26#039;registered to%26#039; fields are defaulted to %26#039;Your User Name%26#039; and %26#039;Your Organization Name%26#039;. How do I change these to match my personal details? Thanks|||I just answered this question for someone else the other day

Follow the instructions here carefully: http://www.wikihow.com/Change-the-Regist…

This procedure is also detailed in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, article 310441: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310441

Be very careful not to change anything else in the registry. If you don%26#039;t know what you%26#039;re doing you could seriously mess up your computer so make sure you follow the instructions closely.

The values that need to be changed are located in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion|||Go into the registry and search for %26quot;your user name%26quot; etc and replace them with your info.

Start| Run | regedit|||Changing Operating System Admin.Name

You need to make changes in a couple places. Start first with the registration. This requires editing the Registry. Before you do that, back it up. To do that, click Start and then Run. In the Run box type, ‘regedit” without the quotes and then click ok. This will open the Registry Editor. Now click “File” and then “Export”. Export the Registry to your Desktop. If you make an error while editing the Registry you can click “Import”. Navigate to the copy of the Registry that you saved and click “Ok”.

Next.

In the Registry Editor, scroll down and open the following:

HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\ by clicking the little + signs. Next scroll down to “Current Version and click on the folder so that it opens in the “Right Pane”.

- -

In the right pane, double-click Registered Organization. In the

box under Value Data, change the name or leave it blank. Next, Double- click

Registered Owner. Change the name to your own. Close the Registry Editor.

Now you have to change the user account. To do that, click Start%26gt; Control Panel. Double-click User Accounts. When the User Accounts

window opens, find %26quot;pick an account to change.%26quot; Click the one that

has the old name. On the next window, click %26quot;Change my name.%26quot; Enter your name and click Change Name.

On the same window where you clicked %26quot;Change my name,%26quot; you also can

add a password or change your picture. To add a password, click %26quot;Create password.%26quot; Enter your password twice and click Create Password.

To change the picture, click %26quot;Change my picture.%26quot; This will take you

to a window with a selection of 24 pictures. To use one, click it and click Change Picture.

You can also add your own picture. Click %26quot;Browse for more pictures.%26quot;

You can use any picture you have on your hard drive. It should be saved as a JPEG--such as Filename.jpg. Click the picture file and click Open.
