How do you change from windows vista to windows xp?

I just recently bought a new computer that had windows vista basic installed, but i want to install windows xp sp2. Reason why is because i have an useful printer that cant be compatible with vista. Only compatible with xp/2000/98 ect. Can any one tell me a FREE way to do that? Oh and don't type 'thats illegal, you can get in trouble....blah blah blah'. I already know that and i don't care. Its illegal to copy a cd for your friend who didn't purchase the cd. Does that stop you from copying the cd for them? No.

No I dont copy the CD for them.

You wont be able to use xp safely, since you would need updates for security and the windows updates check to make sure you have a legal copy.

I would recommend you keep Vista and make sure that drivers aren't available.

There could be some generic drivers that will work just as well for you.

What model printer do you have?

go to the printer manufacturers website andlook for a vista driver
The best thing to do is go to the printer manufacturer's website and see if they have a Windows Vista Compatible driver.

And no there is no free way to install XP and not have it lock out after the trial period.
In XP you can roll back to 98 in Control Panel Add/Remove programs. I would imagine that Vista works the same way if you did an Upgrade and not a full installation.
there are several problems here. First, you can't do it for free. Yes, it's illegal. More important, if you have a pirated copy of XP then you can't download important security patches. You will fail the genuine test and be locked out of important updates. While I don't care if your computer gets owned and turned into a bot, I do care when it becomes a threat to me and the rest of the internet.

The second problem is that you have a new computer, which means there's a good chance your hardware won't be supported by XP and you won't be able to install it properly or at all. XP has problems with some new SATA controllers, for instance, as well as network and video cards. You may end up with a machine with no OS at all.

But if you want to do this, you'll need to get a new copy of XP. You'll need to boot off the XP CD, go into the Repair console and rewrite the MBR and format the drive, then install XP. This will wipe out everything on your drive, so you'll lose any software or data that came with it. You probably won't be able to reinstall the software that came with the computer if it's for Vista as opposed to XP.
